Diving
The Andros Dive experience is one of diversity, ranging from shallow water, wreck
and blue hole dives to dramatic wall dives off the 6000 feet deep Tongue
of the Ocean. Approximately a half-mile to a mile off Andros east coast is
the island’s major dive highlight, the world’s third largest
barrier reef.

Native
Walks:
A nature trail explores the island flora and fauna, blue holes and medicinal
plants. Guided nature walks are offered by Small Hope Bay Lodge, several Mangrove
Cay hotels and in South Andros through the Tourist Office.
Birding:
Andros’ hardwood forest, mangroves and pine yards are habitat to some 120
species both resident Caribbean species and North American migratory birds. Bird
tours are offered by Small Hope Bay Lodge near Fresh Creek and by Kamalame Cay,
an adventure resort in Stanyard Creek. In South Andros, the service of an expert
birding guide can be secured through the Tourist Office.
Safari Up Fresh Creek:
A half-day, 6-mile boat trip up the shallow waters of Fresh Creek takes the visitor
past bonefish breeding grounds through mangroves with frequent sightings of turtles,
ospreys and playful bottle-nosed dolphins. Safaris are available through Small
Hope Bay Lodge.
Exploring Andros:
Andros’ diversity of hardwood and pine forest, mangroves, blue holes, off
shore reefs and virgin beaches beckon the adventurer but beware of the ever mischievous
and mysterious Chickcharnie who is said to live in the tops of the tallest pine
trees. If you cross a Chickcharnie he will turn your head on backwards. Other
mythical creatures include the Lusca of the blue hole and the Bosee Anansee.
