As you travel throughout this 80 mile island, you will be intrigued by the beauty, rich culture, history and heritage that make our island unique. Above all, you will be blown away by the warm, friendly and loving nature of the people of Long Island.
Long Islanders take pride in their island. Therefore, it remains a very clean and alluring destination. We work very hard to keep it this way for our enjoyment and for the pleasure of visitors and investors. We welcome new development to our island; some will come on stream later this year. We are also very proud to have attracted international press to the island. Producers from a popular TV Show will shoot a few scenes for one of their shows on some of our lovely beaches during March of this year. We are so happy about this.
Despite the down turn in the global economy, Long Island continues to attract many visitors and maintains one of the highest rates of repeat guest in all the Bahamas. Our guests have grown to love and appreciate the varied beauty of our terrestrial and marine environment. They continue to find adventures in our caves and blue holes. In this vein, Deans Blue Hole will once again be the venue for the Verticle Blue Annual Invitational Free-diving Competition. This year, the event takes place April 1-11 and will attract 21 athletes as well as a number of spectators.
